WTF Is a Flange?

I had zero idk WTF a flange was when I had Maverick. The only reason I found this out was because I took Maverick to a tongue tie appt and they measured me to make sure everything was fitting properly. My tits were literally being swallowed by my pump when pumping and I thought it was… normal? Lol. NO ONE TELLS YOU IT’S NOT!

If you have the incorrect size, it can cause pain, sore nips and not emptying your milk makers. You want to make sure each time you’re pumping you’re feeling “empty” and most importantly, that you’re comfortable and it isn’t painful.

Below info from Motif Medical:

What is a flange?

A breast pump flange (or breast shield) is a cone-shaped plastic cup that fits directly over your nipple to form a seal around the areola. This creates a vacuum that gently draws the nipple into the funnel for milk extraction

Why does flange size matter?

Not having the correct flange size could impact your milk flow and make pumping uncomfortable. By finding the correct size you can comfortably maximize milk production.
