WTF Is a Flange?
I had zero idk WTF a flange was when I had Maverick. The only reason I found this out was because I took Maverick to a tongue tie appt and they measured me to make sure everything was fitting properly. My tits were literally being swallowed by my pump when pumping and I thought it was… normal? Lol. NO ONE TELLS YOU IT’S NOT!
Real Women. Real Experiences. – Brynn H
Q: Tell me about yourself. Where are you from? How many kids do you have?
A: My name is Brynn H - I’m from Alton, Illinois and currently reside in O’fallon, Missouri with my boyfriend Josh, and my daughter Zaviah. I currently am into all things pilates, organizing, interior design and basically anything that has to do with spending time with my family. I’m a coffee and animal lover!
Q: How was your pregnancy? The good? The bad?
A: My pregnancy was truly an amazing experience for me. Most of that had to do with having a very supportive and encouraging partner that was there with me every step of the way. My pregnancy had its challenges, when I got pregnant, I was living with my 2 best friends Alyssa and Kelsey. I had actually just moved in with them to have the best senior year ever and finish college with a bang. As I was finishing college, I was super stressed about where Josh and I were going to live, and how we were going to juggle everything with a baby. He played college football, had his own place on campus and we didn’t know where to go from there. So, we started looking at houses, finally found and bought a house after 7 offers. I graduated college, we both got amazing jobs, and then I had my daughter. God works in the best ways.

Q: If you could give a new mom some advice what would it be?
A: My first pregnancy was a breeze, only symptom was tiredness! My second I was more nauseous and more hormonal. Both were active pregnancies though and I worked out/got my body moving most days to maintain a healthy-ish pregnancy!

Q: Tell me about yourself. Where are you from? How many kids do you have?
A: My husband and I live in Chicago (Logan Square neighborhood) and had our first baby in October.
Q: How was your pregnancy? The good? The bad?
A: My pregnancy was much different than I expected! Nothing like how it is portrayed in the media or like what I had heard about from others. It was overall good. I didn’t have any nausea or morning sickness which I didn’t know was possible. I was able to be active throughout, with the only thing holding me back being hot weather during my third trimester. No crazy cravings, no stretch marks, no crazy mood swings, all things that are emphasized when pregnancy comes up in movies. I experienced fatigue throughout, mostly in the first trimester. I also experienced a strain socially. I was the first of my close friends to get pregnant, so it was difficult to keep up with the usual social activities, most of which still heavily revolved around drinking. I still attended everything (weekends at bars, friends weddings) but I didn’t feel 100% like myself socially for most of my pregnancy.
Real Women. Real Experiences. – Marisela K
Q: Tell me about yourself. Where are you from? How many kids do you have?
A: My name is Marisela, born and raised in WI. Currently living in MI. I have two children, ages 6 and 9.
Q: How was your pregnancy? The good? The bad?
A: With both of my pregnancies, I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). and quite honestly it was the worst thing to go through. Because of this, I was required to see a fetal specialist once a week to ensure the baby was growing, despite continuously losing weight throughout the pregnancy. Ultimately not enjoying my pregnancies, I knew I was not going to have another child and opted for a tubal ligation. The best part of my pregnancy was when it was over!

Lactation & Breastfeeding Specialist Interview by Jennifer L (CLC) (IBCLC)
Q: Tell us who you are and what’s your background?
A: My name is Jennifer L., and I am a Registered Nurse with a BSN degree. I also hold the certifications CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) and IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant). I have been employed in the childbirth area of a 500-bed hospital for more than 30 years. Most of that time has been spent in the clinical setting, working with mothers at the bedside as a nurse, which includes providing extensive early breastfeeding support. Currently, I teach prenatal classes on breastfeeding and infant care for soon-to-be parents, and I contact new mothers to support them during their first week at home after delivery. I love being able to encourage mothers as they navigate infant care, self-care, and breastfeeding.
Real Women. Real Experiences. – Jessica H
Q: Tell me about yourself. Where are you from? How many kids do you have?
A: Hi my name is Jessica, I am an east coast gal recently back home in MA from 8 years in the AZ desert
Q: How was your pregnancy? The good? The bad?
A: My pregnancy overall was status quo for the most part. My situation was unique in the sense that I had transferred obgyns almost halfway through my pregnancy during my big move back to the east coast so I feel like between that, covid regulations, and not really able to make the connection with the new practice contributed to my angst. I was already super nervous about delivering and not feeling like I was supported, seen or heard by my obgyn made it difficult to feel like I was prepared.

Pregnancy: A Different View - Emily R
The start to our pregnancy was anything but ideal, exciting or planned. I found out I was pregnant while taking a test on a whim, because I hadn’t been feeling well for awhile. I didn’t really think it would be positive, but wanted to rule it out. I was so stunned when the test read “pregnant” I honestly think I stopped thinking or breathing for a few minutes. I had been off birth control for about 2.5 years for hormonal reasons and because it really flared up my PCOS, but I diligently tracked my period, made note of symptoms and ovulation, and we never had so much as a scare in all that time. So I was able to track it back and realized I was about 8.5 weeks pregnant already! I was so completely floored, I waited an entire day to tell my partner until I had time to take two more tests and talk to my doctor’s office. He was so excited and supportive, but equally as surprised! It was a holiday weekend and we were going to my parents the following day, and I just couldn’t wait so I told them too. They were absolutely ECSTATIC and couldn’t stop beaming with excitement all weekend! I had told them right away that I knew I wanted a home birth, I always had, and they didn’t even flinch before responding “ that’s great you absolutely should!” They were just so excited, and so supportive, of everything we felt and all our wild plans, I was incredibly thankful and so glad we shared with them. But for some reason I found myself not matching their excitement.
Real Women. Real Experiences. – Shannon B
Q: Tell me about yourself. Where are you from? How many kids do you have?
A: My name is Shannon, and my husband and I live in Shakopee, MN. We have been married for seven years and met at St. Cloud State University playing intramural volleyball. I grew up on a farm in Southern Minnesota and have two younger sisters. My husband and I have one daughter, Everly, who is three and a half months old.
Q: How was your pregnancy? The good? The bad?
A: I am thankful to say that I had a great pregnancy. I enjoyed being pregnant, was able to stay active all of pregnancy, didn't have morning sickness and didn't have any complications. However, I did learn before we got pregnant that I have/had PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). Thankfully I didn't have many side effects but it unfortunately took us longer to get pregnant than some, because of this. I basically wasn't ovulating regularly, making it impossible to get pregnant. Thankfully after 7 months of trying, I ovulated on my own and was only on oral tablet medication for one month before getting pregnant with Everly.
